Photos & faces

Albums, and a name on every face — so a photograph still means something in fifty years.

What it is

A home for the family's photographs, in albums, with the ability to tag who is in each one. An untagged box of photos loses its meaning the moment the person who knew everyone is gone; a tagged one does not.

How to use it

  1. 1Open Photos and add pictures — many at once, straight from your phone or computer.
  2. 2Draw a box around a face and name them.
  3. 3Filter the album by a person to see every photo they appear in.

A family who used it

Elena spent an evening tagging her grandmother's shoebox of photographs while her grandmother was still able to name everyone. Those names are now the only record of who half those people were.

Good to know

Do I have to tag faces?

No, it is entirely optional — and you can turn face detection off altogether.

Does it recognise faces automatically?

Only if you connect a face provider. Otherwise tagging is manual and private.
